Women in advice: How to get beyond the 22%

While the profession remains seemingly frozen at 22 per cent for female representation,
women in advice say pathways and perception needs to be addressed to encourage more women to join.

When it comes to conversations about women in advice, the 22 per cent statistic is always being rolled out because it has been stuck at this point for quite so long now.

In line with International Women’s Day, several female advisers have told ifa that although they feel it is getting better, they also believe more still needs to be done to address the imbalance.

Having had a front row seat to how the profession has evolved since 1990, Nada Maticevic, a private wealth adviser at Integro Private Wealth, said the profession is now “well positioned to attract more women into the industry”.

“When I started attending industry presentations 30 years ago, I would walk into a room of 200 people and perhaps 20 were women. So, while representation has improved, there is still work to do,” Maticevic said.
